Coogee Beach – DJI Phantom 3
Having taken this footage now 8 months ago using DJI Phantom 3, I finally got my head around using Final Cut Pro X and managed to edit this footage into a short clip. The footage was captured at this amazing beach on the New Years Day where the weather was perfect summers day. Coogee is a picturesque locations with these cliffs along the ocean that have these huge boulders at the base of them. I flew the drone mostly on this side but you do get a look at the beach and how busy it is. Its quite interesting when you start to put the video together you realise how you actually need to think...
Canon 80D Unboxing
A few weeks ago, I bought the Canon 80D to use for my video creations and tutorials on YouTube and Photo Insomnia. So while unboxing the camera I recording its unboxing video. The camera at first glance looks to be great build quality, slightly smaller than 7D or 5D models and the touch screen is brilliant. One of the main selling feature of this camera is the Auto Focus in Video mode which is ideal for videographers and bloggers. I will do another video on this camera in a few months after I've spent sometime using it. [button...

Understanding Lens Distortion Visually
Lens distortion is the affect on the image due to the elements in the lens. Often when taking portraits of people this distortion can affect the result which is why wider focal lengths such as 18mm or 24mm are generally not preferred. You often read about 85mm being ideal lens for taking portraits, this is because it is considered to have representation of the real face in the image. I found this animated Gif on the internet which seems to help you visualise how lens distortion affects the final image in portraits. Below is the breakdown of the Gif so you can see easily the different focal...
Prisma – The Coolest App
Prisma is the latest new App for your mobile device that is taking the world by storm. The App, takes you images and converts them into work of art by applying styles of different artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, Levitan and patterns. It also creates some really cool sketched conversions of your images. I've been using the Prisma App for a few days and am absolutely loving using it. I have created so many images using this App and some of my favourite presets are; Heisenberg, Curly Hair, Marcus D - Lone Wolf, Dreams, Roland and Flame flower. Photographic Use Of A Sunroof
Having a sunroof is great when it's warm and sunny but I've discovered a creative use for a sunroof when it comes to Photography. But its not when it's sunny, which you have probably figured out by now. When it rains the flat glass gathers the small rain drops into larger ones and a combination of different sizes. Its perfect opportunity to take some abstract images with your phone or camera. Also, if you are stationary under some tree or interesting locations you can even capture some reflections in the water drops. Give it a try yourself!!
Rant – Don’t Buy a Drone If You’re Too Scared To Fly It
I have to say that over the 1+ year since I've had my drone (DJI Phantom 3), I've never been scared to use it. Since I've been flying my drone, I've come across few people who have also bought their drones but are too scared to fly them. Getting a drone, whatever kind it might be is an expensive investment. These days they start from US$ 600 to US$4000 depending upon which model and brand you go for. Before you buy one, you should be prepared to invest in money that potentially is going to waste, so if you don't have money you can risk and potentially waste; Don't buy a drone!! As soon as a...
Lightroom Dashboard – Catalog Analytics
Ever wonder what kind of photographer you are, technically? What's your favourite Aperture? What's your favourite Focal Length? In 2014, I did a post about Lightroom Analytics (obsolete) which as a plugin you could download and use to analyse your catalog. Unfortunately the plugin is no longer available, but there is another called Lightroom Dashboard. It is an online tool where you can submit your catalog for analysis and it produces some very interesting analytics about your images. According to their website the catalog is not uploaded to their website it's simply analysed in your browser...
How to Publish Images from Lightroom to Instagram?
Recently I discovered an exciting new plugin for Lightroom that allows you to publish directly from Lightroom to Instagram.
Photography isn’t real until you have a Print in hand
Prints are real, you can touch them, feel them and frame them. So many of us just keep taking pictures and sharing them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+ and whatever else you can share your images online. Far too many of us actually go ahead and print images. What's the first question people ask you when you buy a new camera? How many Megapixels is it? What's the point of having so many megapixels and gigabytes are images saved on computer when we don't print any issues? You can loose the images in a heartbeat, a Hard disk failure or computer crash and your images are gone forever....
