How to Remember which Memory Card you have Used?

How to Remember which Memory Card you have Used?

Memory Cards The challenge I've faced is that often on holiday I fill up one card and then switch to another and then another. But after a few days of shooting I may put an already used card in the camera thinking its free but then realise that its full, as the camera will tell me. So I try another and hope I've picked the correct one. I don't want to sit there and label my cards 1, 2 and 3 etc and then use them in order. Because then you end up working one or two cards more than others as you may not always use all the cards you have and so never get to the last number in your card labels....

Upgrade to Wacom Intuos Professional – Informal Review

Upgrade to Wacom Intuos Professional – Informal Review

Upgrade to Wacom Intuous Professional The Old - Wacom Bamboo My good old Wacom Bamboo tablet has been my partner in crime since 2008 and I've loved using this little tablet. Using a tablet is so much like drawing with a pen and paper, that editing your photographs become a breeze. There is no comparison between using a mouse vs a tablet, its literally day and night difference. However since a couple of years my daughter has also discovered the tablet and has drawn on the tablet, beat it up with its pen. The trusty Bamboo took a lot of abuse over the past couple of years and now was starting...

John Graham Reserve Pier, Perth WA

John Graham Reserve Pier, Perth WA

The Pelican Looking over the Indian Ocean, I saw the sun set over in the distance from John Graham Reserve in Perth, Western Australia (WA). These old posts at the pier were this Pelican's favourite. It insisted on being part of the picture sitting down on them and posing for minutes. Looking through the viewfinder I decided to try some long exposures as the clouds were moving overhead and the ocean underneath. I stuck my trusty Hoya 9-stop  ND filter on the lens and setup to take 3 bracketed exposures as I was shooting into the Sun. The exposures were -2, 0 and +2. After getting the three...

Getting the Correct Exposure – avoid Light Leak from Viewfinder

Getting the Correct Exposure – avoid Light Leak from Viewfinder

One Rainy Morning in Perth On my recent work trip to Perth in September I was up early as Perth was 2hr behind Sydney so I decided to go out early morning to take some landscape shots. In one of the shot my camera was pointing west and therefore viewfinder was facing the sun. The camera showed me an exposure of 1/4th second even tough I had a Hoya HDX400 9-stop filter in front of the lens when I was expecting it to be a longer exposure. When the photo was taken it was very much under exposed to the point that you couldn't see anything. I started to wonder what is going on here? Then by...

Creating a Good HDR result – Arts et Métiers

Creating a Good HDR result – Arts et Métiers

Battle between Good and Bad What is a bad HDR? HDR has gotten a bad reputation amongst many purists who believe that a HDR does not represent the true photo that was captured. Although this is true that camera only captures certain range of light in one exposure, but if you think about your eyes they certainly capture a lot more range of light than any camera out there. So if you think realistically what you see with your own eyes, your camera fails to capture with just one exposure. Hence we shoot multiple exposures (bracketed series) so that we can combine them later. So HDR is a process...

The Storm Approaches – Notre Dame, Paris

The Storm Approaches – Notre Dame, Paris

I landed in Paris while it was pouring rain at the Charles de Gaulle airport, discovered the trains weren't operating from this terminal, had to walk across to another terminal to catch the RER (regional train) to reach Bastille and checked into my hotel. By this time, the rain had stopped so after a quick snack I decided to go out for a walk to take some photos. As I walked out determined, small drops of rain started to trickle down but I kept walking. I'm not one to get scared about my gear with a bit of rain so I continued heading towards the river Siene (La Siene) across...

Nail Free Wall Mounting Your Prints & Frames

Nail Free Wall Mounting Your Prints & Frames

Getting some of your favourite photographs printed is a great feeling, there is nothing better than having your photograph in your hand. Most of the Professional Labs (not your local Harvey Norman or Ted..unless you have spare cash) these days will print and mount or frame your photographs. The only thing you need to do is put them up on the wall when you get them. In the blog post, I am going to explain a great non-destructive (no nails, hooks and hammers needed) way to mount your photos on the wall. No more nails, hooks and using hammers. While there are several options available I am only...
