Cheap Gear Carry Case Review

Cheap Gear Carry Case Review

While there are many expensive options available out there for Gear Cases most are targetted towards pro photographers but what about us enthusiasts and hobbists? We also want our gear to be safe and protected. The most common brand for gear cases is Pelican and they have a huge range of products, I found an inexpensive and cheap case which is great value for money. It is a case by Craftright which is available from Bunnings (local hardware chain in Australia) and can be picked up for only $59. I actually didn't know about it myself, but read about it in a Facebook Group on a post from a...

Fujifilm X-T4 ALL Film Simulations

Fujifilm X-T4 ALL Film Simulations

Fujifilm Cameras inherit a great bit of history from the 35mm Film days when there were different films available that will give you different looks and results based on your selection. With Fujifilm's X-Series range, you find many of these films now included as Film Simulations on your camera. They are not like Canon or Nikon who provide Landscape and Portrait profile which simply tweaks some software settings and generate looks which vary sharpness, saturation etc. Film Simulations actually are reproductions of the Films in your Camera. As every now and then Fujifilm introduce new...

Low Light IBIS Performance Fujifilm X-T4

Low Light IBIS Performance Fujifilm X-T4

Finally in this latest camera by Fujifilm we now have 5-axis In Body Image Stablisation (IBIS) which means that you can get a lot more steady handheld shots in low light or night scenes. I decided to test this capability of the X-T4's IBIS as I know that I'm quite poor at shooting hand held in low light conditions. Generally I can shoot at 1/60th or 1/50th of a second but anything slower I will get blurry shots, or I'd need to crank up the ISO in order to get a stable shot. But with the X-T4 we now have the ability to stablise the frame up to 5 stops thanks to IBIS. This feature is also...

Capture One Tips for ex-LR Users

Capture One Tips for ex-LR Users

Capture One Pro/Express can be quite intimidating at first, especially if you are coming from using Adobe Lightroom. In this post (and video below) I hope to bridge this gap. You will hopefully find after reading this post and watching the video, that Capture One is actually more powerful, flexible and feature rich than Adobe Lightroom. And runs a lot faster (for me anyway), I know this topic has its many arguments. You have two options, watch the video or read the post below and jump to that section of the video directly Tip #1 - Exposure Tab Kind of like the Develop Module in Lightroom,...

Unboxing Fujifilm X-T4

Earlier this May, Fujifilm released these next flagship camera X-T4 with the rumoured articulating screen and In Body Image Stablisation (IBIS).  I reached out to Fujifilm Australia to request if a review unit could be sent to me for testing and review. Sure, enough soon after the release of this camera they reached out to me one Monday morning. It made my day to get the news and after completing the paperwork, the camera was swiftly sent to me the next day. It arrived by courier right on time as indicated on the loan agreement.  As I start setting up and getting used to this camera I...

Miniature Worlds – Project #3

Miniature Worlds – Project #3

This weeks video is about creating Miniature Worlds using these figurines by Faller that I had lying around for a long time. Thanks to a friend Greg who posted some really nice Lego Star Wars scenes that inspired me to go looking for these figurines and use them around the house to capture some creative shots. If you don't have this figurines then you can use Lego or any other small figures you have. Heck, if I had my brother GI-Joe collection I'm sure I could have had some fun with that. I setup these figurines in pots and outdoor table to create some scenes that depict a conversation or...

Low Key Rose – Project #2

Low Key Rose – Project #2

In this project, I decided to shoot a Rose growing in my backyard as a Low Key style image. Low Key is where only some part of the subject is lit and the rest is generally in the dark. In fact most of the image is dark. The result you get is a very intriguing image, I mean look at this. Don't you just love it? Let me know in the comments. Low Key image of the Rose edited in Lightroom Classic Low Key image of the Rose edited in Capture One The full walkthrough of the setup and editing in Lightroom Classic & Capture One is covered in the video below. The setup for this low key project is...

Smoke Photography – Project #1

Smoke Photography – Project #1

This is one of the first projects that I came up with. Its something that I used to do when I first started in photography to play around with my gear, figure out settings and get used to my camera. https://youtu.be/DVvumn1dUsE In this video I share 3 different ways you can setup and use your camera gear at home to be able to photograph smoke generated by Incense or Vapouriser. Constant Light First method, uses a constant light that is side lighting the smoke from either right or left side. Make sure you have a black background and try to flag off the light with another cardboard or cloth so...
