Peter McKinnon B-Roll Challenge

Peter McKinnon B-Roll Challenge

One of my favourite YouTuber Peter McKinnon put out a challenge earlier this week. It was to shoot some B-Roll around your home and tell a story just using B-Roll. I took on the challenge but decided that I would use an intersection near work that I will film and create a story with it. This also allowed me to duck out at lunch to shoot for an hour and try various things. I used the Canon 80D to shoot all of the B-Roll at 60 frames per second (fps) as this is my vlogging camera combined with the EF-S 10-18mm lens, EF 50mm F1.8 and EF 25-105mm F4.0 lens. The 50mm didn't work out well in the...

What’s in my Camera Bag?

What’s in my Camera Bag?

Ever since discovering Peak Design thanks to Trey Ratcliff (from Stuck in Customs), I have been hooked on their bags!! I owned their Everyday Messenger 15 bag for 3 years before I moved over to the Everyday Backpack 20L. I sold the Messenger 15 to a good home where it will continue to serve!! The bag although looks quite compact but is really spacious and can hold a lot of gear in it without giving away that "I'm full". I created this video to showcase how much and what gear I normally carry in this backpack when I travel. I have managed to fit a mirrorless camera with lens, a DSLR camera...

VLOG 06 – Visiting Port Arthur Historic Site

VLOG 06 – Visiting Port Arthur Historic Site

Next vlog from my trip to Hobart, Tasmania is online now. Day 2 of our trip, we visited Historic World Heritage listed Port Arthur just an hour from Hobart. Thanks to the perfect weather on this day we spent most of the day here exploring and appreciating this history site. We stopped in the afternoon to enjoy some pies and beers. Its amazing and shocking how these convicts survived in these conditions when you see how cold it gets and the size of the cells they were living in. I wish I could have flown the drone but its not allowed at this site and if you are licensed you need to apply for...

VLOG 05 – Heading to Hobart

VLOG 05 – Heading to Hobart

It's school holidays which means time for a little family time with my girls. As we were travelling to the southern state of Tasmania for the first time. Yep that's true, 22 years living in Australia and its the first time I have been to the southernmost city in Australia. Few steps south and you'd reach Antartica literally. We flew from Sydney to Hobart to spend 3 days in Hobart and then 3 days in Launceston and we flew back yesterday. During the trip I was recording as much video as I possibly could so I can share the adventure with you all here and on YouTube as vlogs. I will be...

My Travel Backup Strategy

My Travel Backup Strategy

Backup is very crucial, especially when you spend thousands of dollars $$ to travel to a new location with your family or friends. In this post, I share my strategy for daily backups of the photos and videos I have captured during my travel. Most of the time when I travel I am shooting photos and videos. My weapons of choice are Fujifilm X-T2 for photography and Canon 80D for video, oh and who can forget the Mavic Air drone which I use for both. Here is what I do every night before I go to bed: Download all the photos and videos onto my laptop (as long as you have enough free disk space)....

Biggest Reason Why I Love Fujifilm X-Series Cameras

Biggest Reason Why I Love Fujifilm X-Series Cameras

It has been 4 years since I switched from Canon to Fujifilm when I bought my second Fujifilm camera for photography and started to sell off my Canon Gear. Last year I upgraded from that camera (X-T1) to the latest X-T2 but here is the biggest reason why I love Fujifilm X-Series Cameras (both X-T1 and X-T2). The reason is the photographs look amazing (and I don't say this lightly) 'straight out of camera' often abbreviated as SOOC. You have various film simulations available in the camera which reproduce the behaviour of the old films Fujifilm used to make. My favourite is Velvia/Vivid or...

Keeping your Mavic Air Batteries Healthy

Keeping your Mavic Air Batteries Healthy

I don't like to stress my Mavic Air out of its comfort zone nor do I want to stress myself. I generally will fetch my drone back to Home when the battery level drops to 20-30%. So it's important to ensure that the battery is drained and charged back from the 0%. This will keep Mavic Air batteries healthy and strong. It also helps ensure that the battery stays strong and lasts a long time. And with 3 batteries that I have with my Mavic Air (got the Fly More Combo) there is no reason for me to stress my Drone or myself when the battery runs low during a flight. So I have worked out a way to...

DIY Convert Film Negative into Digital Image

DIY Convert Film Negative into Digital Image

Last week I published a post that provided very comprehensive details on my process of converting 35mm film negatives or medium formats into digital images so you can save them on your computer or take them to a local Lab to get them printed. This week, I have put together a video version but with even more insight on my post-processing steps to finalise the converted negative. What I cover in this video: The Lightbox that I use How I convert negative into digital photo? How I setup my camera and connect it up into Lightroom? How I edit and finalise the image? If you like this video please...

DIY How to Easily Convert Negatives to Digital Photos?

DIY How to Easily Convert Negatives to Digital Photos?

Converting your old negative to digital photo is not a hard process but it does take some time, so you need to invest it setting up and photographing your negatives. You can buy off the shelf converters that convert your photos to digital images but they have their limitations; noisy scan, JPEG only (no RAW file), trivial interface and buttons. However, they would do an okay job. Trust me I bought one to try it out and soon after I was back to the drawing board to figure out how to do it myself. Hence I put this detail together of how you can do this yourself. You will need a few things: A...

DJI Mavic Air Unboxing

DJI Mavic Air Unboxing

Subscribe After being away from my YouTube channel for a few months due to various personal reasons, I am glad to be back and creating content again. Having recently purchased my 2nd drone (I sold the first one December 2017) which is the Mavic Air. I recorded an unboxing video of the DJI Mavic Air - Fly More Combo. I got a great deal from the guys at DigiDirect Melbourne, which made hard to say no to this beautifully crafted drone. I had to bite the bullet!! Now that I have it prepped and ready to fly, I look forward to taking this with me everywhere with me and capturing some nice...
