Capture one

What is your Go To Lens? Ever been asked this question by another photographer? If you don’t let me help you define what is a Go To Lens:

  • It is a lens that you love to use most of the time.
  • This is not your favourite lens but more an all purpose lens that can cater for many shooting situations.
  • Its the one lens that you’d take if you only had the option to take your DSLR or Mirrorless camera with the one lens attached to it.
  • Its the Lens that you have taken most of your photos with.

So know you know which is your Go To Lens. If not here is an easy way to find out if you use Lightroom.

  • Launch Lightroom (the obvious first step)
  • Then go to Library module
  • Activate the Filter Bar from View menu
  • Select a Year of choice (eg 2015), Camera with most photos (X-T1) and then your Lens with Most Photos. This is your Go To or Favourite Lens.

Now if I look back at my days of shooting with Canon 7D, I know my Go To Lens was EF 24-105mm F4 L lens. And if I look at my current main camera Fujifilm X-T1, I know my Go To Lens is the XF 18-135mm Lens.

So why are these my Go To Lens? Well for me these lens mean that they gave me best range of shooting most of the time so I am not swapping lens all the time. My style of shooting which is more Travel and Landscapes means that I need to wide at times and zoom in finer details at other times. These two lens give me the most flexibility which results in more photos taken with these lens.

So which is your Go To Lens and why? Let us know by leaving a comment.
