Sculptures by the Sea 2015
This years Sculptures by the Sea 2015 (hosted at Bondi Beach) was plagued by overcast and rainy weather. In trying to balance work and my urge to visit this event for sunrise shoot I was monitoring the weather forecasts compulsively until I saw on the last Friday before the event finished there was a small window of opportunity between 6am till 9am before the rain gods came back.
So at 4am the alarm went off before I make the 50 minute journey to catch the sunrise. By 4.30am I was in the car on my way to Bondi and finally arrived at my destination by 5.30am and scrambled to find a parking spot.
Even though the sun wasn’t visible at sunrise (blocked by the clouds) there was no sign of rain so once I finished taking photos with my Fujifilm X-T1, I setup my drone (DJI Phantom 3) and took off from Hunter Park. The weather was favourable so I flew around the park capturing photos and videos.
A few people came up to me once they saw the drone in the air and they just were curious to know if I was the “Official photographer” and others wanting to know more about the drone. It was nice to have a chat with them and continue taking pictures.
