Capture one

Whenever I buy any camera or gear that uses batteries I always buy extra batteries for it, no matter how good the storage capacity or rating of it would be. And with all the batteries, I then label them in numbers.

Am I just being OCD or is there some method to my madness.

I want to share some of my tips that will help you with battery management.

Labelling Batteries

I label my batteries so that I can cycle through them all when I am using my camera. So if I remove battery #1 I will insert #2 and then swap it with #3 in that order and so on. This ensures that I am using my batteries equally and not overworking a particular battery not knowing I am.

My Simple Practice

All batteries have a set life and to get the most out of it you want to follow some simple practices:

  • Discharge them fully as much as possible, like when there is no juice left for it to turn on the camera
  • Charge them fully up to 100% before using them again as much as possible
  • Cycle through your batteries

Even my AA batteries are labelled in groups of four. I use these mostly in my speedlights so I cycle through 1 set at a time. This means all 4 sets are cycled through equally hence keeping them at their best performance.

Hope this battery management tips help you get the most out of your batteries. If you like this post, please consider sharing it with your friends.
