Editing Capture time of your Photos in Lightroom

Editing Capture time of your Photos in Lightroom

Every time you take a picture, your camera embeds the date time into the photo. As we take vacation, and these days people travel more overseas than explore their backyard, which means they are in different time zones. If you are like me, you get so caught up in taking pictures that you don't realise that your camera is still set to the Home time zone and therefore each photo has wrong time embedded in it. Fortunately, smartphones aren't affected by this problem but most DSLRs and compact cameras are. Luckily, the engineers at Adobe thought of this and they put a feature in Lightroom that...

Do you ello?

Do you ello?

Seems that we have another social network in the works to add to our inadequacy of networks. Ello.co is a new social network that is aimed at photographers to share and showcase their images and content with others. The network is still in Beta and is based on Invite Only sign ups. It was originally built by its founders as a private network to share images amongst them and then morphed into a public network that they are bringing online. Ello has very clean and minimalistic interface which let's your photos do the talking. After all a picture is worth a thousand words. Here you the profile...

Focus Stacking for Macro Photography – Part 1

Focus Stacking for Macro Photography – Part 1

Focus Stacking is a technique where you can combine various images where your subject is not in it entirety, completely in focus in one single image but by combining a series of images where different parts of the subject are in focus you can get the complete subject in focus. Very commonly this technique is used in Macro or Close Up photography where depth-of-field (DOF) is very shallow. Now you might be wondering well if you shoot at F16 or F22 or whatever maximum Aperture your lens can support can't you get the complete subject in focus? And you are probably correct because the DOF will...

How to Rename Files in Lightroom

How to Rename Files in Lightroom

Renaming files in Lightroom Why would you want to rename your photos, you might be wondering? Well if you shoot as much as me you end up with 10s of thousands of photos per year in your computer, having the files named with appropriate names makes them easy to find in Lightroom and through Finder (on Mac) or Explorer (on Windows). You can also add meta tags to make the photos easier to locate. In Lightroom, when you import your photos its easy to rename them during the import. There is a panel that lets you import your files (video & image) with a desired name. Although if you shoot like...

Portrait Retouching using Frequency Seperation

Portrait Retouching using Frequency Seperation

In this video tutorial, Aaron Nace from PHLearn.com show a great technique that allows you to re-touch portraits without turning the subject into a porcelain doll. The techniques smoothes out the tones in the subject and leaves the skin textures intact. You can retouch both the tones and the textures as two separate components and have the resulting image appear smooth, yet real. If you retouch protraits often or want a fast way to get started, they also provide you with a photoshop action that you can download. IMAGE Credit: Aaron Nace from PHLearn.com

The Black Glass – Long Exposure Photography

The Black Glass – Long Exposure Photography

Long Exposure photography is a way to capture time and movement in one single exposure. The technique requires that your exposure be anywhere from couple of seconds to a few minutes long. The beauty of such photograph is the ability to show you something that you can't see with your naked eye. Almost all of us would have seen some examples of such image without realising or not. The key and essential element for such images is the Filter that you need to attach in front of your lens. These filters are called ND (Neutral Density) filters which vary from dark semi-transparent filter to a...

Stamen of the Lilly

Stamen of the Lilly

The image below is a close up shot of a Lilly Stamen which I shot this evening at home. I had bought some flowers for my wife last week and the flowers opened up this week at their prime. So I used my Canon 7D coupled with 100mm F2.8 Macro Lens to take a few shots. To create this image below I actually took 10 images at F2.8 while focusing on various sections of the Stamen. The depth of focus at F2.8 when you are 10 centimetres away from the flower is 1-2 millimetres. So you can't get the whole Stamen in focus at F2.8. You could get it in focus if you shot at F11 or F16 but then the...

Revisiting Old Photos

Revisiting Old Photos

What do you do when life gets too busy to go out and shoot? Well you go back in time, way back!! Back to year 2005 and revisit old photos you've taken. When I first visited France after joining Esker, it was a three week training stint in a foreign country. Not bad huh!! It is pretty bad when you only know a couple of words of French. I took this photo with my first Digital Camera FujiFilm FinePix S5000. The camera was a 6 Megapixel of awesomeness, I still recall spending $1200 back in 2004. If you compare the Original JPEG (I hadn't discovered RAW back then) to today's camera standards even...

Facebook – Boost Post Experiment

Earlier this week I decided to take a gamble and put some money in Facebook to Boost Post. Over on my Facebook page for Gabha Photography, I created a post to share with my Audience the release of a new Lightroom preset pack called Travel Presets Pack for Lightroom. Facebook was quick to encourage me to Boost Post to reach more Audience. Normally i resist it, but this time I gave in thinking well I will never know if I never try it out.   So I followed the steps to Boost Post for 5 days for a specified amount I felt comfortable gambling. I setup target audience 'United States' as most...
